NSW Central West refers to the area west of the Blue Mountains and includes the two major towns Bathurst and Orange. Bathurst and the surrounding areas saw much of the beginnings of Australian colonial settlement - being, Australia's first inland settlement with Bathurst being Australia's oldest inland city.
Today one of Australia's fastest-growing, modern regional cities it is just two and a half hours drive from Sydney at the junction of the Great Western, Mid Western and Mitchell Highways.
Orange and its surrounding area are enjoying a growing reputation for rare and exotic produce thanks to its cool climate and rich volcanic soils. The produce ranges from stone fruits and sheep's cheeses to fungi and grapes. About 40 cool-climate wineries operate in the area that has now become one of the most exciting wine regions in Australia.
The NSW Central West has a wide variety of accommodation including motels, apartments and luxury hotels.
